Building Yourself the Ultimate Man Cave
If you’re a family man, you know how important it is to have your own space. Somewhere that you can watch sports, enjoy some refreshments, and more or less get away from the kids and/or wife. Especially if you are a recent ex-bachelor, this may be pretty difficult. Talk to your partner and try to come up with an agreement that you will each have your own small space in the house or apartment to do whatever you want with, no questions asked. For the men out there, here are some absolute must haves if you want the ultimate man cave.
Mini Fridge, Microwave, and Toaster Oven
If you’re going through the trouble to build out your ultimate man cave, you’ll want all the luxuries of a full apartment, just miniaturized to conserve and maximize your limited space. One of the first things you’ll need to focus on is food and refreshments. Imagine watching a sporting event in your man cave and having to run to the kitchen every time you need a cold beer, or watching a movie and not having popcorn on hand? Eliminate the issue completely but putting in a nice small kitchenette. This can also help keep any kids from “borrowing” your adult beverages!
Entertainment and Activities
A true man cave will have all kinds of things to do at any given time. Obviously, you’ll need a flat screen TV for sports, movies, and television in general and of course the bigger the better! You’ll probably also want to have some kind of gaming system (if not multiple systems). Check out what kinds of deals you can find at Game Stop on used “out of date” systems and you could potentially have every system from an original Nintendo to the most recent “state of the art” Sony or Microsoft systems. Wire it all up to some quality surround sound speakers, get some comfy couches and chairs and really turn it into the ultimate place to play video games for hours or watch the March Madness basketball tournament.
Depending on what you are personally into, you can decorate the entire space to your personal liking. If you are a big time NASCAR fan, fill the walls with race pictures, model cars, NASCAR paint schemes of your favorite drivers. If you enjoy reading, consider a small bookshelf with your favorite books; movie buffs can cover the walls with collectors movie posters. Sports fans can collect autographs, etc. Decorating your man cave may be the only free decorative creativity you have in the house, so make it true to you; it’s your space!!
Be Ready to Make Compromises
Through this whole process, remember that since you are getting your perfect man cave you’ll probably have to compromise with your other half and allow them the same freedoms. Don’t worry too much about that though, because it’s a small price to pay to get what you want! It’s like my dad always told me, happy wife means happy life.
